Black History Month
Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of Black people in U.S. history. It's a time to elevate the Y's commitment to diversity and inclusion for all, as well as education, reflection, and reaction. The history of the YMCA – like the history of the United States – is a story of incremental progress toward greater inclusion and equity.
Below you will find events, ways to get the family involved, and other resources in support of the Black community here in Virginia's Blue Ridge. We invite you to take time to dive more into what Black History month truly means, as well as how we can all work to become stronger allies and stand up against all forms of racism.
