Will Smith – YMCA Express at Gainsboro Y Teens Volunteer

Q: Tell us about yourself.
A: I have been working with my wife, Lakesha Smith, with youth for years. I have worked in broadcasting and I am currently still working with WKBA Radio, WTOY Radio, Channels WSLS and WDBJ TV Channels. My wife and I are also youth counselors and work with young people in the community including William Fleming's MEN IN ACTION.

Q: How did you first get involved with the Y?
A: I got involved by first being a member and working out at the gym then after meeting Gina and Jonathan I got involved as a volunteer.

Q: What is the best thing that has happened since you started working with the Y?
A: The best thing is the opportunity to work with young people, volunteer in the garden and with Read and Feed program. The young people are the future and we have to invest in the future. So many people have given up on our young people but we need to pass the baton to them, we cannot wait until later, we have to do it today!

Q: What do you wish others knew about the Y?
A: I wish other people understood young people do wish for guidance from older generations. They want and need guidance, they are looking for love, guidance and time - and it's up to us to be there and be available.
